The August issue of America's 1st Freedom recalls how the former first lady risked the wrath of the Ku Klux Klan in Tennessee by crusading for civil rights in 1958, at age 74. The Secret Service warned that the KKK had a $25,000 bounty on Mrs. Roosevelt's head. "I didn't ask for your protection," she replied. "I have a commitment. I'm going."
