I certainly hope someone at AMD has the sense to seed the other major open-source OS producers (OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD) with free Hammer machines

I hope so too. And if not, it is yet another reason to have a pilot launch prior to official end of year launch.

They should also seed the developers of MySQL and PostgreSQL with proto-machines in order to prime the market for Hammer acceptance.

No need - most free software is already 64-bit clean (it works on Alpha, for example, and Ultrasparc). Just a recompile.

The O/S-es are already ported.
