Actually, recent studies have determined that we are all somewhere along the scale between hetero and homo, i.e. bisexual. That suggests a lot of leeway in making choices here, assuming we get rid of all those "societal pressures."

So stop looking at me like that. I might ... look back. ;-)

I think we are all heterosexual by nature, but are tempted to do things that seem like fun, even if they are not natural. How else would you explain alcohol, drug, cigarette and sugar consumption, even though they are harmful? I don't think it is common to see animals in nature to do things that are harmful to them, and if they do, the natural selection will weed out that type of behavior.
