There are three type of luck:
Good Luck
Bad Luck &
No Luck at all

Poker saying:
Let me be good enough to know when I'm lucky, And lucky enough to know when I'm good.

long-gone >Fortune goes to the lucky

Indeed, fortune means luck. The expression is a tautology because when one is fortunate, one is lucky or when one is lucky, one is fortunate. So, with all due respect, to say that fortune goes to the lucky is self-evident --- or is it?

The idea that fortune favors the brave considers the particular circumstance in which an individual is likely to be lucky -- all other things being equal, of course.

There are alternatives to being brave like, being lazy, being cowardly, being dishonest, being corrupt etc. but I have not heard of fortune favoring any of those although, I imagine, if I spoke to various politicians, I could be surprised!

FWIW, I am one who believes that an individual makes his own luck. In fact, most times, if one is not prepared in advance to receive it, being fortunate or lucky will not confer benefit. So, one could also say that fortune goes to the wise.

Being of a somewhat mystical disposition, I am one who believes that "right conduct" also confers good fortune --- it certainly brings one towards happiness. And possibly, if one is happy then maybe being lucky is not all that important. Indeed, a happy person is fortunate.

Whereas a fortunate person may not be happy! Clearly, one might say he was unlucky.

So, now we see that fortune also goes to the unlucky!
