For an aspiring chaotician, this recent spate of market engineering initiatives seems to present research and dissertation material (of a sound and timely nature, no less) along the lines of game theory and path dependence.

Rulemaking geared toward leveling "playing fields" to assuage the flippant cult of equity hobbyists have (and in short order) directly and adversely impacted the wider, previously foremost pension and mutual fund demographic; among the outcomes: buyside pricing and execution difficulties arising from severe impact effects of decimals; the introduction of a new, different dealer oligopoly; and the list goes on.

Does this sound, at face value, defensible (with a lot of work, of course, it goes without saying), or does it seem too "policy oriented"?

LP.
