Not too difficult to follow. Loose credit funded by Fannie Mae Clown Dollars leads to a bubble-up in real estate prices.

The resulting collapse wipes out both home-owners and holders of Fannie Mae Clown-Certificates. (pension funds, insurance companies, retired people)

Charles Kindleberger has been brilliant during his entire career. Talking to home-owners about real estate prices is like talking to crack addicts about the dangers of drug abuse. As they say about teaching pigs to sing, it only frustrates you and annoys the pig.
