Yiwu, to keep warm, they could move to Phoenix or Florida [though I was watching a tv show about the frozen o-rings on the Space Shuttle which explode and it was -10 degrees Celsius or thereabouts... brrrrr....].

They can also keep on working if they want money.

Meanwhile, what a happy occasion the opening of the British Commonwealth Games is. Swarms of countries and hordes of happy people from around the world. It brings tears to my eyes.

Sadly, there's no team from Hong Kong which is now part of China. No wonder Jay is pessimistic about the planet.

Hooray, there goes NZ. Stopping for a haka for the Queen. I wish they didn't wear black as their uniform. It looks so sombre. Even a bit reminiscent of Nazis.

Tony Blair looking resplendent in pink shirt and tie. Saddam can't preside over such a happy occasion.

This seems happier and more cohesive somehow than the Olympic Games, with their boycotts, murder, acrimony and money.

There goes Trinidad and Tobago, so you are still in Jay! Cheer up... no Hong Kong, but T&T are there. Quite a crowd of them too! With your diverse antecedents, you can always find a place at the table.

There are many of them carrying digital cameras and cellphones - even in the midst of the people, they want electronic links to everywhere else. If they had Korea's cdma2000 they could be emailing their pictures to their friends and family back home.

Zimbabwe comes in! Not banned although Zimbabwe is out of the Commonwealth due to Mugabe's racist and destructive mania. Sports teams are still allowed. They are last in apart from England. Dressed all in white. Quite a contrast to New Zealand's sombre black!

The English team is very exuberant. The home ground lending them confidence.

Hi Yiwu, I saw some calculation that projects more than 25% of the boomer retirees will live below the poverty line, and if so, and given the typical American disposition, not liking it much, spells revolution and redistribution, by them or their kids.

Totally difficult to predict the future, as someone had mentioned, the assumptions can be changed so easily, almost always for the more favorable assumptions.

I am simply preparing for the possible, and hoping for the desirable.

Chugs, Jay
