Gst: I've always liked your philosophy of keeping cash and not buying stocks on margin.
Sure, I've made investment mistakes but I've never received a margin call.
I imagine the only thing worse than getting a margin call is getting a call from a funeral parlor telling you they have another coffin available for you to lay in.

Do not forget pension adjustments. With the fall of the market many companies will have to contribute hefty sums over the next few years to their pension funds, further damaging the E in the P/E ratio.

As you said, we'll know the bubble is over when AMZN (or YHOO for that matter) trades at $3 per share.
