Pete,

Redo your calculations for DDR400 (PC3200) which is already available. Matter of fact, PC3500 (DDR 433MHz) is available now. Many of those BW limited benchmarks would be won by CH due to the higher efficiency of an on die DRAM controller alone. The AXP benchmarks are run on PC2100. PC2700 is 25% faster

I thought about that. Even though the memory is running at 166 MHz, the FSB is running only at 133 MHz. With PC-3200, the bandwidth goes up, and on some benchmarks it may no longer be the limiting factor, holding Athlon back. AMD does not necessarily need to match P4s bandwidth in total, it just needs to match the demand from the apps being tested, that is until the next BapCo update <g>.

Pete, when the 3.06GHz Pentium 4 comes out, it will be 21% faster than the current Pentium 4. There will also be dual DDR chipsets available by the time Hammer launches, which will add 2x the bandwidth. Add to that DDR-II, and you'll have another 2x to bandwidth, while AMD is stuck with a DDR333 controller. Plus, Hyperthreading has been demonstrated to offer 20% performance improvements on some applications. Therefore, I conclude that the Pentium 4 will have an IPC advantage over Hammer, and be able to outperform it by at least 50% - if not, much more.

Wow. Using your hyperbolic optimism, and enthusiastic ability to ignore the facts, I can fabricate performance figures that are as relevant as yours. Imagine that!
