If the antennas that have been errected for W-CDMA in various parts of Europe can also be used for 1X then I wouldn't be at all surprised if W-CDMA gets dropped.

Nokey getting behind GSM/1x makes sense to me. From a royalty and cabal standpoint, it actually may look better to them than wcdma. They can call it GSM something, so ego should be intact.
