I have nibbled in some large caps lately, mostly too soon. Few are screaming value plays but I am buying them for the long-term as franchise leaders: BBY, SBC, DUK, ACN.

MAXF - I think they have to produce consistent earnings the next quarter or two to convince investors they are for real. They already preannounced .25 for Q2 without insurance compensation - I thought that would be enough, but frankly I think MAXF has a very immature and whiny shareholder base at the moment.

Anyone own/have an interest in Starwood (HOT)? Pays a decent dividend, an interesting note from a research report I read is that the entire property portfolio is currently valued at about 100K per owned room. The Boston Marriott Copley Place, a property comparable to Starwood's, was recently acquired for 188K per room.
Speaking of all things Boston, Fleet Boston (FBF) has gotten crushed on Robbie Stephens and Argentinian woes. Anyone interested in this "cigar butt"?
And, one more with a financial recovery theme - Stillwell Financial (SV - Janus, Berger family). If one believes that the markets have bottomed, perhaps this might be a good play.
I have no position in SV or HOT, a small position in FBF.
