Ish, You must have rural grackles. The ones around here stick around parks, picnic grounds, and McDonalds, to get a free meal of human food. I have not yet seen any of them eat a bug, but they will grab peanuts away from squirrels in the park we go to. Sometimes I take a long stick along to keep them away. I never hit them, but they shy away from the area when I just pick it up. When we have stale bread, we will take it along to the park for the birds, but the white ibises give the crackles a lot of competition for that. We like to hand feed the squirrels. I have had them jump up on the back of the bench we are sitting on, and tap me on the shoulder asking for a peanut.
