How can DEBKA be sure that it's not those Chinese Muslims that were supposed to be marching down the Old Silk Road to aid the Taliban that made the alleged attempt on Fahd's life? They'd be due in SA around now, I figure.

Or more realistically, why in the world does anybody pay more attention to DEBKA than, say, the equally credible Weekly World News? Well, I guess you answered that one with the agenda thing. When you're on an all fronts propaganda offensive, all sources are valuable.

Yep, I've certainly skimmed enough Debka files here. This particular post just reaks of an agenda. Who knows whether what they report has any truth quotient at all. But it is clearly pushed by some very obvious agendas.

Judging by the number of their reports which are later confirmed by Ha'aretz or the Jerusalem Post, there is quite a high truth quotient, certainly when reporting on Israeli or local Arab affairs. Their reports on Israeli government and PA doings seem quite accurate as far as I can judge. I have almost never seen one of those reports contradicted by later mainstream reports. Their previous reports on Saudi Arabia, such as Prince Abdullah's non-cooperation with the US, have also been confirmed by other sources.

Reports from further afield have sometimes gone astray, such as the Chinese support from Al Qaeda that Win keeps repeating ad nauseam, or their prediction of a US invasion of Iraq last May. I just expect their US sources are real hawks. They were the first source to report on Al Qaeda troops being given safe passage by Iran, and that has been generally confirmed.

Debka does report things rather sensationally, and you do have to filter for the politics. But come to think of it, I can say the same about the New York Times, or have temperatures in Alaska really risen 7 degrees in the last thirty years?
