Yep...and for most, it's tax-advantaged over stocks (the 500K cap gains exemption and deductible interest on mortgages, to name 2 powerful mechanisms). It's also much more illiquid, meaning that once JqP takes his money out of the market to buy that McMansion, that money is no longer on the sidelines. It's ran out of the stadium, into the car and is driving "home"...(of course when the real estate bubble bursts, it's next stop will be "money heaven", but I digress...<G>)
