Steven> I would be surprised if there were a Fortune 500 company (besides Apple!) that had a more Apples than PCs

I wonder how many school districts have more Apples than PC's?

I imagine there are a few, but the ratio is dropping yearly.

As you said "the important battle was lost long ago".

The problem like in Japan after the battle of Midway, the devoted were never told or just couldn't accept the fact.

Now all that is left, is Kamikaze type believers!

Steven,

Thanks for your insight. I can see why you need a PC laptop. I'm sure there are quite a few others that can't switch from them either.

It's tough for Apple these days fighting a perception that isn't reality. The PowerBook really is a better machine for most people. They just don't know it and won't believe it because they know Apple has blown most of its credibility in the past.

I think Apple's most important strategic effort has to be to get the xServe and OSX into the business networks so that they can win back confidence in that arena. If Apple can get machines back into the IT departments, they have a good chance of getting back to the desktops. I think it's the IT departments that resist the Mac - they need to be won back.
