Had confidence not been destroyed, many of the IPOs in the "bubble" may have been able to execute on their business plans (which typically anticipated no profits for several years, as "investors" knew full well), and eventually "grown into" their valuations. Instead, we had a panic, as it became clear the surplus would be dissipated and the economic future of the country made to emulate that of an aluminum company.
