Thanks cow....this thread is incredibly informative.

Set up my Linksys router to distribute the new broadband connection through the house (two PC's hooked up and two other rooms are now wired for outlets if we add more PC's as the kids get older). It's amazing how user unfriendly those things are......my guess is that almost everyone has to call tech support, which has to be expensive for the company to deal with. OTOH, tech support both at ATT Broadband and at Linksys answered the calls within five minutes or less, were knowledgable and helpful, and walked me through the issues (none of which were covered by any of the documentation or set up "wizards") efficiently. Took about a half hour on the phone to resolve the problems, and then it was up and running.

Is there any hardware/software solution available so that one PC is connected to both cable and ADSL and one could switch between the two with ease in case your primary service, say cable is not available.. Thanks..
