I'm sure there are quality unions. Perhaps yours is one of them. I hope so, since you really don't have any choice but to join and pay your dues.

I have no doubt that unions look after certain interests of their members. If you did not have a union, though, those interests that were important to teachers would be handled by some other mechanism. You are assuming that the lack of a union would leave a vacuum and you would be on your own but that isn't the case. Perhaps some other structure might work even better on behalf of the teachers.
