Ah, I've met exactly the opposite, my entire life. But of course, teachers unions may be different. My husband was in a union shop at the phone company when he was 20. He didn't like it much because he was young, lacked seniority, and got the crummy jobs. But he had great pay and great benefits with that job- probably a direct result of union bargaining.

My experience with managers when I had menial jobs as a teenager was that they were exploitive and brain dead. I wish waitresses had had a union. I would have joined it. Opinions are all colored by experience I suppose. My experience with managers has been generally negative, and my my experience and knowledge of unions mostly positive.
