I thought you'd be intrigued by the book-buying scam. Amazing, huh?

I have theories about why he agreed to be interviewed by the NYTimes and why the other brothers wouldn't be interviewed: He's got a narcissistic personality disorder. From childhood, he was described by a brother and a grandmother of being selfish and overdramatizing. he seems to feel the the world is fascinated by all things Dave, which is why he continues to rehash his story in book after book.

I think his other brothers refuse to talk to the press because they fear retribution, which is what he did to the brother who talked, in characterizing him as "semiretarded".

And I'll bet that his book sales will continue along the same lines. Like it or not, there's a cult of victimization that has grown around him.

Last night I went to a womens' writing group. It's three hours long and consisted of free time to write, then a sharing period, during which there was to be no negative comments. Of the seven women there, three wrote prose pieces about how men call women "crazy", how women are mistreated by society, and how women are more spiritual beings. I was so incredulous that I could barely keep a straight face. It was like spending an evening with the cast of The Vagina Monologs.
