IBM (IBM) announced plans Tuesday to buy the consulting practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the world's largest professional services organizations, for $3.5 billion in cash and stock. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and approval of local PWC firms through votes of their partners, the companies said. The deal is expected to close at the end of the third quarter. PWC Consulting will no longer pursue its planned initial public offering, which was supposed to be called Monday.
