The US military is an all-volunteer army serving America's interests at home and abroad. Also, the last time I checked we do not have a military government and nor is military service a prerequisite for holding political office.

Okay, I was being a little sarcastic. I'm a former jarhead, but military service is a diminishing expectation of the public for politicians for the simple reason that the general public does not enlist either. However, non-veterans can make rational decisions about war.

That said, I was just watching the news of the mob beating after a traffic accident where 2 men were beaten to death in Chicago. It does seem people today are lacking in discipline and I am not entirely opposed to conscription. The US will never go back to it, but it is a little sad that virtually no one today sees the benefits of it.

For those who don't know, you are a Jarhead in the Marines, a Squid in the Navy, a Dogface in the Army, and a Flyboy in the Air Force.
