Wally,
Nice article and imo I think this rally still has legs. But it really depends whose numbers you use. The declines mentioned in this article may be true. But I believe a truer test of bear market bottoms is p/e ratios near the bottom. The percentage decline from the top is not as significant, especially if the top was more significantly over valued. Imo it comes down to whose earnings estimates you are going to use. I think the earnings this author sites are excessive. Have we seen "the" bottom. I doubt it.

Companies buying back own shares:

usatoday.com

-

I think we need more of this.

Companies should put more of their money where their mouth is.
(Especially companies with large amounts of cash)

-

Not to mention some possible pluses like (for instance):

+ Higher earnings per share (less shares outstanding)

+ Companies don't pay dividends on shares retired to their treasury (I think)

+ Exhibits confidence in your own company

+ & if you are going to buy back stock, makes sense to ' buy low' (or near it's low) !

Rah, rah, rah! There are so many distortions in that article I don't know where to begin. Market is littered with bottom catchers this year who have bought when they thought the market was cheap. It just kept getting cheaper. And all the early buyers are looking up from below now.
