I kid you not. Last time I was in Tucson, there was marcos, with his whole retinue, strolling regally down the street, all in matching Sombreros. They were quite an impressive site, what with sashes, colourful clothes, bandoleers, bullwhips, castanets, pearl handled pistols, and reams of beadwork.

Just as I watched, a placer miner appeared out of nowhere, slithered down the street, came right up behind our padrone and bit him square on the ass! What gall. So what does marcos do, he turns to his wife and declares, "mein gott, a cockroacha just bit me on the elbow."

I dunno. Last I heard he built his ranch square atop Mexico's richest placer mine and when folks around there objected to his strategy, he kept saying, "don't see no stinking silver roun' here.."
