but one brick wall is all it takes.

Perhaps SOI is a brick wall for AMD.

By the way, Dan3, since you have declared AMD as the mass production leader of copper SOI/devices, why is it that I can't by and AMD copper/SOI device today?
Where is all that copper/SOI mass production from AMD going?

I think there will continue to be years of steady progress in semi production, but one brick wall is all it takes.

I disagree. If you get to one area you can't scale any more, you still have many options to get around the various "brick walls".

Options include: 1) Changing the nature of the area (new materials, etc.). 2) More aggressive scaling in other areas. 3) New transistor design.

World + dog is still using the basic MOS transistor that's been used for ages. There are scads of other designs out there including many double gate structures. Even when silicon runs out of steam, there is plenty of work going on to find alternatives to silicon.

Brick walls aren't the end of the line... they're the impetus for innovation.
