The very best thing Reagan did was lower taxes. Reagan wanted his defense budget and Democrats wanted their social budget. We got both. We spent the USSR into oblivion, but the breakup has its own problems with nuclear proliferation. The worst thing to happen under Reagan's watch was bank deregulation, which was not that dissimilar to Clinton ignoring what was really happening in the stock market. They were both prosperous times. Bankers need people to create money and then they take it back. Reagan was a conservative moderate and Clinton was a liberal moderate. It was mainly Hillary that made Clinton's politics look more liberal than it was. In addition to the market bubble I would also fault Clinton for the security breech with China and being a national embarrassment. * * *
