I would expect the Times, or any other coherent observer, to point out that whatever pump-priming effect war spending would have will almost certainly be overwhelmed by the economic impact of the oil price increases that always accompany a Middle East war, and that an invasion of Iraq poses serious economic risk. Another point that the administration needs to address in order to convince me - and, I suspect, a few others - that their proposed war is a good idea.

I would like to see leaders in such situations striving for the best possible outcome and planning to deal with the worst possible outcome. I don't see much of that happening here.
