While I don't know whether or not we will do a double dip and fall into recession again, new government data show a that the recession of 2000 was 3 quarters long. This same data also indicates that the recession was the mildest since 1955. It is for this reason that I believe that the Government took the correct actions regarding the recession. I also think that it is also not a fluke that the recovery started shortly after taxpayers started getting their $300 or $600 tax rebate checks. And I also believe that the economy was helped, when the accelerated depreciation schedule was passed in March (despite the economic shocks that resulted from 9-11).
