GW,

Re: "I have heard horror stories about DOA computers and horrible service from
people that I know or have met."

I have purchased two different DELL systems and these all arrived on
schedule and turned on immediately. I have also used their technical
support and was very pleased. Previously, I had purchased my systems from Gateway.
I switched to DELL when I used Gateways technical support and could only
reach a voice-mail system that hung up on me.

Make It So,
Yousef

GW, Same here, I make my own clones from assorted sources.. Dell offers a common denominator and a number of options that have higher margins to offset the extra fiddling to customize the kit.
The biggest problem is transit damages. Usually dislodged cards and cables. Occasionally broken hard drive or CD.
But they have learned the packing game and it usualy arrives alive.
One of the companies I maintain is full dell. they buy and I install service, etc, since the dell people take ages to arrive. They could have bought clones for 35% less, but opted for Dell on an image basis.
