Well, I'm not so sure about that. The electorate must remain ever vigilant, that's for sure, but the fundamental flaw of democracy is that the incentives are for government to go in only one direction - ever bigger. As democratic government grows and government's larcenous hand slides ever deeper into its citizens' pockets, there is ever more money in the trough for redistribution to government's dutiful supporters and an ever increasing number of citizens are sucking gratefully at government's hairy tit. Before you know it, you wind up living in Canada, France or worse, Denmark, where marginal tax rates are greater than 100%, all citizens are (economically) equal and testicles are obsolete.
