pompps, I needed to learn a little about the lighting market ......

who is who in lighting markets....

the general tendency of manufacturers to install there production facilities in less developed countries.

Philips Lighting is world leader in lighting products manufacturing. Its market shares are 50% in Europe, 36% in North America, 14% in the rest of the world. Since the 80s, Philips has participated intensively to the concentration of this industrial sector by purchasing smaller national companies such as Companie des Lampes (FR), AEG (GE) or Polam Pila (Poland). It has also developed joint ventures with Westinghouse Lamps, Kono Sylvania and EBT China.

General Electric Lighting (GEL) holds a 50% share of the US market but had only a 2% market share in Europe in 1988. Since, in order to reach a 30% market share in 2000, GEL has acquired several European National companies as Tungsram (Czechoslovakia), Thorn Emi (UK), Sivi (IT) or Linder Licht (GE). In 1994 They have built a logistic unit in France to supply France, Germany, Benelux Switzerland, Italy and Austria. They now intend to reduce prices in connection with supermarket chains

OSRAM

A 100% subsidiary of the giant German holding SIEMENS, OSRAM achieves a 86% share of its turnover by exporting (46% North America, 41% in EU, 6% in South America and 6% in Asia). Strategy for the next coming years is to increase Asian Markets market share by doubling its turnover in Asia (from 185 MECU in 1995 to 385 MECU in 2000).

Other significant manufacturers are Sylvania Lighting International or Panasonic

So Phillips has LEDs covered with Lumileds and GE has GELcore and it CREE holdings. If they scale way way up do they build plants, buy from CREE, any thoughts out there?
Who does Sylvania have?
