Chances are the cell phone company has made some change in their network, or in the base stations that you typically use, and that this is causing the problem

Thanks for your reply Mr. Cramden. Your explanation made me realize that this echo problem almost exclusively happens when I am on a car trip making long distance calls, and rarely if ever when I am making calls from my local service area. I'm about to get rid of the 4 year old phone for a new 1X phone so hopefully that is one problem solved? I did receive some replies via PM, and I have found that I can always count on posters on this thread when I have questions about anything regarding the wireless telecommunications industry.
