Hi BigBull; Re Saddam using missiles against Tehran. While I can believe that Iraq would make a big deal out of their missiles effect in winning the war, I doubt that they had any. I'm guessing that the war ended for the traditional reasons wars run down by mutual consent. The two sides ran out of cannon fodder at the fronts, and began to worry about sudden collapses in moral which would lead to a military defeat.
