WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Sun Microsystems Inc. (NasdaqNM:SUNW - News) co-founder William Joy bought 1 million shares of stock in the computer maker last month, according to a U.S. regulatory filing.

Joy bought shares on the open market on Monday at prices ranging from $3.93 to $4.01 each, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday.

GST, I agree re the economy and the options. But the media attetnion on the magnitude of the fraud going on on wall street and in corp boardrooms is not helping either.

If there were an index of cynicism among the US population, i'm sure it would be at an all time high right now. And cynicism is not good for the stock market.

I think consumer spending has begun to slow, and that would likely be a serious negative for the economy.

There ain't much coprorate bond issuance going on these days, and when was the last time you saw a secondary equity issue by a SP500 co ? And banks have long since toughened up on loans standards to the smaller co's. So low rates sure aren't helping corporate America much. So where is the capital to fuel growth going to come from?

So I think there are a half dozen key issues weighing on the market. And rates are not one of them.
And of course the markets care a great deal what I think ! <gg>
