The US govt. is printing fiat money with gay abandon. The value of the US dollar is being further eroded and things are gradually costing more and more. A US$50 M aid to Indonesia may be peanuts. But, as you know, little drops do make a mighty ocean!

Methinks most of the money for fighting terrorism in Indonesia will, as usual, run out of a rat-hole and end up in some politicians' pockets over there.

My! What price US citizens (and folks elsewhere) have to pay for the naiveté, gullibility, stupidity, omissions and mistakes of the US govt., past and present! Many will do well to discover why costly mistakes were made and then some.

US gives US$50m to Jakarta's war on terror

JAKARTA -- The United States will contribute US$50 million to Indonesia's counter-terrorism efforts over the next few years, US Secretary of State Colin Powell said here on Friday.

He also noted that most of the money would go to the Indonesian National Police. While he did not break down the sum of money, the US Congress has already approved the spending of about US$16 million, including US$12 million to set up a police counter-terrorism unit.

Mr Powell also announced that Washington was prepared to expand military cooperation with Jakarta, nearly three years after most military ties were broken off over the violence in East Timor.

A formal announcement of the new assistance plan was expected after his meeting with Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

Speaking after an earlier meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda, Mr Powell expressed confidence in the ability of the Megawati government to handle the terrorist threat. -- AFP
