I just listened to former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter on C-Span...

What an impressive guy...Why has Democratic Senator Biden's Committee FAILED to allow folks with multiple perspectives to testify...??

Our Congress men and women are failing us and not providing a real meaningful debate on IRAQ and what a sensible policy might be. Why was Scott Ritter invited to testify before the Senates in France & Britain and also before the U.N...??

Mr. Ritter is a true patriot who spent over 10 years in the marines and more than 7 years as a UN weapons inspector in Iraq...He has incredible insight. He claims that the U.S. has tried to maniplulate the weapons inspection process in the past and that's why Iraq does not trust us...He also feels we should NOT pursue a unilateral policy vs. what Bush Sr. pursued over a decade ago (a multi-lateral policy with broad support from moderate Arab nations and important European allies). He claims there is A TON of harmful and untrue rhetoric coming out of The Administration...Saddam's Regime has always been against the Islamic Fundamentalists and IS NOT in bed with Al Qaeda (that's a total myth)...He feels that our policy of economic sanctions on Iraq has been counter-productive and actually indirectly been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi women and children. He's NOT defending Saddam BUT he feels we are demonizing him and he can be contained and dealt with in a much more effective way...He also feels Saddam would allow truly objective UN weapons inspectors back into Iraq (if he had assurances that they would NOT be manipulated by the U.S. to target Saddam).

Finally, Scott Ritter said Senator Chuck Hagel told him over 2 years ago not to expect any Senators to speak out on Iraq the way they should...Hagel feels there should be a meaningful debate.

I hope the Senate will continue their hearings and be willing to gain additional insight from very knowledgeable folks that may NOT agree with the policy of going to war with Saddam....In the last few days the best voices have been found on C-Span, CNN Crossfire and on Donahue...IMO, they hold more BALANCED and meaningful debates than our U.S. Senate.
