Verizon Offers AOL Services to Mobile Users

BEDMINSTER, N.J. (Reuters) - The No. 1 U.S. mobile phone company Verizon Wireless said on Friday it began to provide e-mail and news and information from AOL Time Warner Inc. (AOL.N) to its customers using internet-enabled phones.

The mobile phone joint venture between Verizon Communications (VZ.N) and Vodafone Group Plc. (VOD.L), which already offers such content and services from Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O), said it would add AOL's instant messaging service to its offerings later this year.

Verizon, which is the fifth U.S. phone company to offer AOL content, said it immediately began offering content including news, financial information and driving directions.

While some AOL content is free, Verizon customers need an AOL subscription to use services including e-mail.

Sprint (FON.N) (PCS.N), AT&T Wireless Services Inc. (AWE.N), Nextel Communications Inc. (NXTL.O) and VoiceStream Wireless, owned by Deutsche Telekom AG (DTEGn.DE) already deliver AOL news and information.
