Senate Approves 'Fast Track' Trade Authority for President

In a vote of 64-34, the Senate Thursday gave final approval to a trade
promotion authority bill, which would restore the president's authority to
negotiate trade deals for the first time in eight years.

"Taxpayers and consumers won a major victory today," said taxpayer
advocate Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform.

"Every day that passed without TPA saw the loss of American
productivity and jobs," he said, "and it's a shame the Senate and
[Senate plurality leader] Tom Daschle took so long to grasp this
opportunity."
