Cooters,

Since I've been following Samsung phones (for the last year):
SCH-xxxx has been a CDMA phone for Verizon,
SPH-xxxx has been a CDMA phone for Sprint PCS, and
SGH-xxxx has been a GSM phone for VoiceStream (and others?).
See samsungtelecom.com

So there are two *other* possibilities:
1) the SCH-xxxx phones at Circuit City are really intended for Verizon, and
2) Samsung has abandoned their model number plan.

I bet on #1.
