patron,

The problem with food commodities is it takes huge storage facilities to own the products. Farmers with storage facilities available will keep these commodities instead of cash. If I could make my garage environmentally safe for storage it is not going to hold a large enough quantity of food commodities to take care of my store house of value needs, say nothing about near by facilities to turn the commodity into cash when transactions are needed. <g>

People will need a commodity that they can convert into what ever means of currency used to purchase goods and services and I can not come up with anything except the precious metals. I can hardly wait until the day my bank conducts gold and silver transactions or at minimum a bullion broker dealer is in the same building where my bank is located like in Australia today. I think the Canadians also have easy access to bullion dealers.

Joan

but it all goes down the debt sinkhole once the residential real estate bubble implodes

patron, wouldn't you say the action of the homebuilders is telegraphing that this process has started?
