It would have been cool if you had posted an URL for easy access to that discussion, but it's clearly part of a "Linux will kill Microsoft" discussion. Which is not the case, of course.

Of course, Microsoft will earn money in the Linux market one day. Linux's open-source model has almost killed FreeBSD in the PC market, and seems to unite the Unix market on a single API and set of tools. The market has evolved to having 2 major platforms. Windows and Linux. Everything must be compatible with at least one of them, and Linux partially supports the Windows APIs via Wine, and Windows partially supports the Linux APIs via Cygwin. Java is also out there somehow, but is essentially just another thing that runs on Windows and Linux. Microsoft's .net platform is still unclear, whether it will run equally well on both Linux and Windows, or whether it will be just another Windows technology that can be brought to run on Linux under some circumstances.

But anyhow, if Microsoft would begin to market products in the Linux market, I'm sure they would earn good money on that market, too.

Dybdahl.
