It's mostly about oil? So, what happened to LindyBill and our commitment to "get those bastards"? What happened to "the 5000 year old birthright" that gives Israeli eternal dominion over the West Bank? What happened to all the eternal "Arab Mind" blather that passes for "probing cultural analysis" around here? What happen to the Russian savior on the oil front, where we don't have to worry about oil because the Russians and former Soviet apparatchiks in the 'stans are going to flood the market? If it's all about oil, why is the Neocon/Israel lobby always badmouthing the Saudis at every opening?

Gulf War I was clearly about oil. This one is about a lot of things, but when you try to pin down the neocons and warbloggers on one of them, there's always something else. As near as I can tell, what it's really about is using 9/11 as a rational to remake the Middle East in some Israeli/neocon image. Which is all fine and good, but how realistic that vision is is what I have my doubts about. The vision seems to be mostly about blowing the lid off, which we can no doubt do easily enough. Putting the lid back on is what may very well prove problematic. Israel has been trying to put the lid on the West Bank for 35 years now, and what progress, exactly, have they made there?
