Jim,

Re: " ... An even bigger problem here is voting by illegals..."

I doubt that Ted sees this as a "big problem" ... Most of these
tend to vote "Democrat".

Pretty much off base here. The real problem is that once people move to FL, they don't want to pay any taxes so upgrading election methods get's stuck on the back burner, no money.

They just upgraded all the voting machines here in PB county to touch screen and want to put some in supermarkets and malls so people can "practice".

An even bigger problem here is voting by illegals...

Jim, I find it hard to believe that many find Ms. Harris credible, and that she needs to be defended. Secondly, blaming it all on the "foreigners", legal or otherwise, is only good for so much corruption and incompetence. While FLA faces above average population growth pressures, there are other states that are growing as quickly but don't seem to be suffering major slips in performance.

During the decade of the '90's, FLA grew by 23%. States with similar growth rates are OR with 20%, WA with 21%, ID with 29%, and CO with 30%. It is true that All but CO have had less pressure from illegal immigration. However, its estimated that the illegal populations in OR and WA tripled during the 90's. My point is illegal population growth in and of itself does not determine the standards of a place.

As for taxes, I don't think there is any place in this country where people don't complain about taxes. For an example, people move to WA state expressly because there is not a state income tax. In addition, there have been so many iniatives to reduce taxes here in WA state, its incredible. When they do pass, someone else....residents or corporations.....take up the burden if it becomes necessary. So your complaint about people's refusal to pay taxes and the tie in to incompetence/corruption is not a stong one IMO.

Its easy to pass judgment but it seems from where I am sitting, standards have slipped in FLA for whatever reason, and no one is willing to do what it takes to correct that slippage. I think that may be the key. Plus, if you look at your two statements above......they are somewhat contradictory. Again, its a matter of priorities. Maybe with all this press, FLA will be 'embarrassed' into making the changes to bring things up to snuff.
