WHB, In many of such instances, the police are not involved at all. Some person decides to use the name of law enforcement groups to pressure people to make donations, or buy ads, that have nothing to do with law enforcement. Our semi rigs used to travel 16 state, some times we would get a call from someone claiming to be a member of the highway patrol, or sheriff's department, asking me to take out an ad in their organization's magazine. When I declined, they would mention that our trucks could have some problems in their states. After calling the law enforcement groups mentioned by the caller, I never heard from them again. Many such calls are scams.
