Thanks--it is hard to be completely correct about these things. For example, at some points I took a good deal of money out of the fund, but then I added in other contributions, depending on needs or ability at the time.

it actually works out to 9.5% compounded annually, I think, which is exactly what people say about the stock market in the long run (i.e. a fifty-year period).

So it's more the power of compounding of retained gains than anything else.

Also, to be honest, that fund has gone up about 40% in a year and a half (lots of BEARX and some energy stocks that worked out). Am trying to make sure I hold onto those gains.
