Then I heard about rape, beards being cut off from old men, wiping out of villages and THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY. I quit posting on this thread for a couple of months because I was disgusted by people who posted that mistreatment of civilians was acceptable to the US military. What changed my mind was reading about a case in the Civil War in which mistreatment of civilians was prosecuted by the US government and punished. Can't remember the name of the case, could probably dig it up if I wanted to, but I don't. The Yankees were supposed to burn out a town, and one woman had a sick child who was on the verge of death. The townspeople begged the Yankee commander to spare that house but he refused. The child perished that night and the commander was prosecuted by the US government and imprisoned for a number of years. My point being that mistreatment of civilians is against the law. We can't stop men from raping even in peacetime, but it's not part of our official policy. Maybe the left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing, but if it is found out, at some level, offenders will be punished. Coverups may happen, but that isn't official policy, either. So, people who claim that mistreatment of civilians is official policy are blowing it out their shorts. Which suits me just fine. I remain disgusted by the people who believe that mistreating Palestinian civilians is acceptable Israeli policy. Both governments (Israel and Palestine) are behaving abominably, and their apologists are . . . . can't think of another word so I'll stick with disgusting. Apologizing for abominable behavior, claiming it is justified, is what I am talking about. Edit: to forstall the predictable posts by those with tin ears, mistreating Israeli civilians is not acceptable Palestinian policy, either. If I had my way, I'd take away foreign aid to Israel AND Palestine and let them settle their differences between them, and from Egypt, too.
