Nah, the posted article I was responding to was about Rumsfeld's diplomatic visit to Iraq... where he OKed the sale of military-use helicopters to Saddam despite the State Department pointing out that Saddam had been gassing troups on the Iranian front - in violation of world treaties.

I think the strongest connection we could point out would be that the Reagan/Bush admin. cared more about displacing Soviet influence in Iraq, and about 'containing' the Iranians, than they did about Saddam's little habit of using poison gas in 'military' campaigns.

It reduces the strength of the administration's repeated complaints about Saddam's use of gas, to recall that they were wide-eyed enablers of that use.

(Reagan/Bush also - over Congressional opposition - removed Iraq from the list of terrorist sponsoring states, and permitted US chemical companies' sales to Saddam, with which he manufactured a lot of his poison gas stocks.)
