Hamas recently threatened to go after American targets (in the Mideast), but backed off when they killed 5 Americans in Hebrew U., claiming that the Americans were "collateral damage" like the dead civilians in Gaza, thus making the dead Hebrew U. students equivalent to Shehadeh. The NY Times reporter let him make this equivalence.

Hizbullah has never staged attacks outside of the Mideast to my knowledge. Their willingness to attack American targets in the Mideast is not hypothetical -- remember the Marine Barracks in 1983.

get ready to head for large generalization?

I was trying to sort out where Colbalt was going with the comment, "I did not sign on for this." However, your post does bring up a sore point.

We are on record from 9/11 as going after all the Terrorists, where ever they are. I read this to include Hamas and Hizbollah. I don't think we have to wait for a direct attack by them to do this. Bush has put us in a "preemptive" mode. (BTW, we are burying a woman in San Diego this week who was studying at the Hebrew University, and Hizbollah went out of their way in their statement about the attack to make the point that they were glad they got Americans.)

I am not happy with attempts to limit our attacks to Al Queda only. These people are all tied together, and we have to get them all, IMO.
