Go to stockcharts.com and click on their "chart school" section. They have lots of T/A definitions and illustrations. A must read for anyone trading, IMO.

Here's a few links on flags and pennants..

In the old classic book Edwards/Magee "Technical Analysis of Stock Trends" he actually calls the "down flags".

The first link I posted is an excerpt from that book on flags. In the second link, scroll all the way down to the bottom for a great example. In that chart you can also see how a rising wedge can morph into a bear flag.

They do breakout the upside at times, especially when there has already been 3 in a row - and 3 legs down and also on short covering.

Some other good chart pattern examples...this link has wedges, head and shoulders patterns etc and really clear definitions.
