And I suspect it would not bother you so much if you were truly as "independent" as you claim to be. The main reason I'm making an issue of it, while I'm typically pretty oblivious to insults, I stop short of allowing my very integrity to be so cavalierly dissed. The other reason is that, like most straight-forward and open people, I get cranky when I am deliberately misunderstood. If I were to insist time after time that you were, in fact, a woman despite your assertions that you are not, because I have a gut feeling that you really are, then I am calling you a liar and a fraud. My practice of turning the other cheek stops at ignoring that level of insult. And decent people stop short of making that level of insult. Fact: I agreed with Laz and it is my opinion that you lean left. Fact: I stated that some of your pronouncements sound very demolib pinheadish.... Those do not add up. I'm sure that I sometimes say some things that not only sound but are quite demolibby. That does not mean that I generally lean left. It only means that my perspectives are not monolithic when placed on a left-right continuum. On balance, I may be left of you but I am not left of center. No evidence on my suspicion, just a gut feeling... You can either accept my assertion about what labels apply to me, you can demonstrate that the preponderance of my perspectives are, indeed, in the left-hand column, or you can come up with some I'm OK/you're OK explanation. There is a tailor made one given that, as someone with a predominantly libertarian approach to things, I do not fit neatly on a left-right continuum. But you cannot tell my that your gut feeling trumps my 59 years of thoughtful introspection and have me sit still for it.
